The client seeks an experienced Data Center Manager to ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and security of their IT and operational technology infrastructures.
This role demands a strategic leader with extensive technical expertise and a strong project leadership background, capable of driving continuous improvements, implementing best practices, and fostering a collaborative, safety-focused culture in a global environment.
The office is based in Basel, but a hybrid work arrangement is possible. Open to candidates from Europe, willing to travel when needed.
Travel requirements (25%-35%) to UK, US and within Switzerland (Visp and Zurich).
What You'll Be Doing
Oversee all data center operations, maintenance, and security to ensure peak performance and continuous uptime.
Manage the data center's physical infrastructure and collaborate with IT leadership to align strategies with business goals.
Serve as the primary contact (SPOC) for technical infrastructure issues, liaising with both external providers and local mechanical service teams.
Direct and empower the Data Center Operations staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment.
Develop and implement the data center's strategic direction, including cabling standards and comprehensive disaster recovery plans.
Manage the full lifecycle of IT infrastructure assets, conduct capacity planning, and supervise expansions or migrations.
Drive continuous improvements, standardization, and automation initiatives within data center operations.
Ensure strict compliance with security policies and industry regulations, while actively monitoring performance and troubleshooting issues.
Stay current with technological advancements, recommending enhancements to optimize data center operations.
Your profile:
Deep expertise in data center infrastructure, encompassing servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems.
5-10 years of relevant professional experience.
Advanced technical proficiency with VMware vSphere, Windows Server, Linux Server, Storage solutions, and Backup systems.
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals.
Proven track record in leading data center projects, including expansions, migrations, and upgrades, backed by strong project management skills.
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations for data center operations, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO 27001.
Relevant certifications like CDCP and CDCMP are a plus.
Understanding of security hardening principles and best practices.
Demonstrated experience in simplifying and standardizing infrastructure.
Adept at driving cultural and technological transformation.
Ability to proactively identify risks and implement immediate solutions.
Experience within the pharmaceutical or other regulated industries.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to diverse audiences.
Fluent in English; German language skills are a plus.
Experience working in large, multinational organizations.
